In winter, moist air from the Black Sea mixes with cold mountain air to produce plentiful powder snow at altitude from January to April. “It was probably my best day’s skiing ever.”Apres ski here is low key, with hot baths, games of table tennis or massages. On bad weather days, alternative activities include skiing from the snowcat, snow shoeing or ski touring. The Kaçkar mountains could soon be on the world ski map, and not just for heli-skiing. “We will be very happy if, one day, there is a ski resort in Ayder,” says Gasser.

MEKELLE, Ethiopia, July 10 (Reuters) - Curled up on a hospital bed in Ethiopia's northern Tigray region, an emaciated little girl struggles to breathe, as her father softly strokes her gaunt face and her mother sits crying. Rize: Turkey’s hidden mountain hideaways

CNN —Rize province, on the Black Sea coast near Turkey’s northeast border with Georgia, is still largely unknown to many international travelers. Away from Rize itself – the seaside city which lends its name to the province – the area’s valleys and plateaus, surrounded by high-altitude mountain ridges, have remained largely rural. With high rates of rainfall, Rize’s mountain villages (yayla) become a point of escape from summer temperatures. “The state of tourism in Rize is not very pleasant because visitors often arrive without much knowledge about the local culture or the nature. “I think the purpose of coming to Rize shouldn’t be to rush through everything and take a few selfies.

The percentage of children in Tigray receiving routine vaccines has fallen below 10% this year, data from the Tigray Health Bureau shows, undoing years of government efforts to boost immunisation rates. read moreMEASLES OUTBREAKSHealth Minister Lia Tadesse said vaccines had been provided to Tigray this year and that more were ready to be delivered once conditions allowed. The rate across Ethiopia was 65% in 2021, according to data from the U.N. children's agency UNICEF. Ethiopia's health minister Lia said 860,000 doses of measles vaccines were delivered to Tigray last December and additional doses were delivered on April 2. WFP spokesperson Claire Nevill, however, said the agency was waiting on clearances from Ethiopia's government.
